Why I Finally Decided to Write the Book

I’ve wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember.

Not in the casual “oh, someday I’d love to write a book” kind of way, either. I mean I’ve been making up stories, characters, dramatic situations, and entirely unnecessary romantic complications for most of my life.

I just never actually sat down and wrote the book.

There was always a reason to wait.

I needed more time. I needed a better idea. I needed to figure out exactly how publishing worked. I needed to become a real writer first.

And, apparently, I needed approximately seventeen more excuses.

The stories were always there

I’ve always been a reader, and I think somewhere along the way, reading turned into wanting to create the kinds of stories I loved.

I wanted complicated women. Big feelings. Smart mouths. Characters who make questionable decisions and then have to deal with the consequences.

And, obviously, I wanted the romance.

Give me two people who absolutely should not fall in love, put them in an impossible situation, add some unresolved baggage and a healthy dose of tension, and I’m probably going to be invested.

I’ve had stories living in my head for years. Some stayed there for a few weeks. Some stuck around much longer.

One of them refused to leave.

Eventually, I realized that maybe the story wasn’t going to write itself.

Rude, honestly.

So I’m finally doing it

Writing a book has been one of those dreams I’ve carried around quietly for a very long time.

It’s exciting.

It’s terrifying.

It’s also a little surreal to finally be able to say:

I’m writing a book.

Not I’m thinking about writing one.

Not I have an idea.

Not maybe someday.

I’m actually writing it.

There are characters with names. There are scenes. There are chapters. There are moments that make me ridiculously happy—and others that make me stare at my computer wondering why I thought this was a good idea.

Basically, I’m learning that writing a book is a lot like falling in love.

You start out thinking it’s going to be wonderful.

Then suddenly you’re emotionally attached, slightly obsessed, occasionally frustrated, and wondering what you’ve gotten yourself into.

And you wouldn’t trade it for anything.

What’s next?

I’m not quite ready to tell you everything yet.

There are still things I’m figuring out, and yes, I’m going to make you wait a little longer for the title.

But I am ready to share the journey.

The messy first drafts. The characters. The behind-the-scenes chaos. The things I’m learning along the way. And, eventually, the book itself.

So if you’ve ever had a dream you’ve been putting off because you weren’t sure you were ready, consider this your little reminder:

You don’t have to feel ready to begin.

Sometimes you just have to decide that you’re done waiting.

I’m finally done waiting.

And I’m so glad you’re here for what comes next. ❤️
